Kören — en film om Tensta Gospel Choir is distributed by Doc Lounge and premieres in Swedish cinemas in November. The film is Amanda Pesikan’s directing debut and is produced by Stina Gardell and Anna Weitz at Mantaray Film.

The choir is a perfect microcosm of society, where big and small universal issues can be reflected.

Amanda Pesikan, director.

Strong themes are touched upon in the film, such as longing and the human need for context and belonging, something that has become significantly more important to us all over the past year. In addition, the film also explores whether it is possible to participate in an expression of culture without embracing its whole context. In this case, whether or not it is possible to sing gospel without believing in God.

In Kören — en film om Tensta Gospel Choir director Amanda Pesikan follows one of Sweden’s most popular choirs on a crucial journey to Chicago, the hometown of gospel. The trip soon turns into a spiritual and emotional challenge, where questions of faith, leadership and spirituality will put the choir’s affinity for each other to the test.
The film documents a crucial time in the choir’s history, while confronted with issues of religion, individuality and community.

Kören — en film om Tensta Gospel Choir will premiere in Swedish cinemas in November. The documentary release will be something of a celebration in itself, as the choir also celebrates its 25th anniversary in 2021.

We look forward to being able to show Kören — en film om Tensta Gospel Choir in cinemas to a wide audience. This film really is touching, directly and subtly — about the group and the individual, about religion and how it relates to an individual as well as the role it can play for a group.
