Sea of Shadows

Richard Ladkani & Sean Bogle, 104 min, USA.

The sharply shot documentary film "Sea of Shadows" focuses on the fact that what we eat can have major consequences on the other side of the globe. The world's smallest whale, the Vaquita, is facing extinction, because its natural habitat has been destroyed by the Chinese mafia and Mexican cartels who harvest the totoaba fish's swim bladder - and call it "cocaine of the sea". Environmental activists, the Mexican navy, and undercover researchers are fighting to stop the trade at a high cost which "Sea of Shadows" testifies to.
